Children are natural observers with a deep-seated curiosity about the world around them. The Montessori Preschool Summer Program in Mount Clemens is designed to nurture this drive through hands-on learning for children ages 3-5 throughout the Macomb County area.
Starting June 13, our science and nature-themed program offers flexible scheduling with no minimum attendance requirement. Whether you are commuting from Clinton Township, Harrison Township, St. Clair Shores, or other Macomb County communities, families receive a summer calendar to select their child’s specific attendance days, making it easy to coordinate with vacations and family time. We are open from 7:00 am to 5:30 pm to provide reliable, enriching summer childcare for our local community.
Why Science and Nature in Preschool?
Young children are natural scientists. They observe closely, ask thoughtful questions, and learn best through direct experience. By focusing on science and nature, our preschoolers:

Summer is for discovery! Preschoolers use real scientific tools to examine nature, insects, and fossils found in our environment.
-
Develop observation and critical thinking skills by examining the world around them.
-
Build early scientific vocabulary through guided discovery.
-
Strengthen fine and gross motor skills through active outdoor exploration.
-
Foster a sense of respect and a lifelong connection to the natural world.
What a Preschool Summer Day Looks Like
Our summer days balance the structure of the Montessori method with the flexibility of seasonal exploration. During our science and nature theme, children may:
- Investigate plants, soil, insects, and local weather patterns.
- Participate in simple science experiments and hands-on demonstrations.
- Create nature-inspired art and crafts using found materials.
- Engage in water play and outdoor movement.
- Work independently or collaboratively based on their unique interests.

Our students enjoy a true summer camp feel with outdoor games, team challenges, and plenty of fresh air.
Our teachers guide these experiences, allowing children’s questions and curiosity to shape the flow of the day.
Outdoor Learning as a Core Experience
At Montessori Stepping Stones, outdoor time is an essential part of our preschool summer program. We believe the outdoor environment is a natural extension of the classroom. Children spend extended time outside observing changes in nature, engaging in large-motor play, and exploring water, sand, and natural materials.
Montessori Principles in Action
Even during the summer months, our program remains deeply rooted in core Montessori values:
-
Independence and Choice: Children are encouraged to follow their interests.
-
Hands-on, Concrete Learning: We move from the “doing” to the “understanding.”
-
Respect for the Child: Activities are tailored to each child’s specific developmental stage.
-
Real Experiences: We focus on the beauty and reality of the natural world.
