At Montessori Stepping Stones in Mount Clemens, your child does not have to change schools, rebuild friendships, or start over. Our continuous Montessori program begins in infancy and grows all the way through eighth grade on one campus. For over 40 years, families across Macomb County have trusted us with this journey. The result is something no single-grade program can replicate: a child who is deeply known, consistently supported, and genuinely ready for what comes next.
Infants and Toddlers: Building Trust and Independence
Our youngest children arrive in a warm, home-like environment designed to encourage exploration, movement, and early independence. From the very first weeks of life, our trained infant caregivers follow each child’s natural cues. They respond to moments of alertness, the need for calm, and the drive to reach, grasp, and discover.
This is not babysitting. It is the beginning of a Montessori education. For example, children develop trust in their caregivers and begin language acquisition through rich, consistent verbal interaction. As a result, they build genuine confidence in their own abilities long before they can walk or talk. The relationships formed in these early years often last far longer than parents expect.

Primary (Preschool and Kindergarten): Hands-On Discovery
From ages 3 through 6, children enter what Dr. Montessori called the sensitive periods. This is a window of extraordinary brain development. During this time, children absorb language, order, movement, and social understanding almost effortlessly. Our preschool and kindergarten classrooms are specifically built to meet these developmental needs.
For example, children build early literacy through tactile Sandpaper Letters and the Moveable Alphabet. Many children begin to spell words before they can comfortably hold a pencil. Similarly, math comes alive through materials like Number Rods and Golden Beads. These tools make abstract concepts visible and tangible. In addition, Practical Life activities like pouring, sweeping, and caring for plants build fine motor coordination and concentration. These skills carry forward through every stage of learning.
Elementary: Expanding Curiosity and Critical Thinking
Elementary students arrive with big questions. Montessori classrooms give them the tools to pursue those questions deeply. The shift from the primary years is significant. Children move from exploring materials individually to collaborating on research, projects, and presentations that span multiple subjects. For example, a study of ancient Egypt might involve geography, writing, mathematics, and art all in one integrated exploration.
Through this work, students develop critical thinking, time management, and the ability to work productively with peers of different ages. In addition, mixed-age groupings give older students the chance to teach and lead. This deepens their own understanding while showing younger students what is possible. These are not skills taught in a single lesson. Instead, students practice them every single day.

Middle School: Confidence, Leadership, and Real-World Readiness
Adolescence brings enormous change. Our middle school program meets students where they are. At this stage, young people want to explore identity, leadership, and real responsibility. So we give them exactly that. Students take on camping trips, community service projects, in-depth research presentations, and media production. These experiences challenge students to think, collaborate, and lead in ways that traditional academics rarely require.
The outcomes speak for themselves. In 2026, three of our middle school students earned acceptance to the International Academy of Macomb. This is one of the most competitive high school programs in the region. This achievement reflects years of Montessori education building genuine academic capability, self-direction, and confidence. It does not happen at the finish line. It builds slowly, year after year.

Creativity in action: our students lead complex projects from media production to set design, building real-world skills that prepare them for high school and beyond.

Why One Continuous Journey Makes All the Difference
When a child stays in one Montessori community from infancy through eighth grade, something remarkable happens. Teachers know each child’s learning style, interests, and history. Friendships deepen into genuine community. Furthermore, students develop a sense of belonging that reinforces their confidence and motivation year after year. There are no jarring transitions. There is no starting over. The thread of growth stays intact.
Above all, this continuity is what separates Montessori Stepping Stones from every other option in Macomb County. We serve families from Mount Clemens, Clinton Township, Harrison Township, Chesterfield, Shelby Township, and beyond. The best way to understand what we offer is to see it for yourself.
